Liquidation Sale

Another note to the end of the holidays... end of the Holiday sales and their horrible commercials.

Bruce's Cry For Help

The Holiday season wraps up this weekend... And you know what the holidays are known for? Suicides.

Secretaries - A.T. and Death

FANTASTIC! Don't know about you, but I've been having a great, freakin, day. And now, it's better. I've been looking for this sketch on YouTube for ages now, and here it is!

One of my all time favorites, the end of season 5, and the entire series of Kids in the Hall.

I love when they take off their wigs. Side note: they are all passing a true joint back and forth in the grave.

DANCE BELLINI! DANCE!

Excellent Mom Frame

This character... well I hate him. But I love Mark, and I love Scott's part in this one.

Small C

Gotta say I ADORE that wig, Kevin is wearing! LOVE IT!

KITH news

Joe Bodolai Dies: Apparent Suicide For Former 'SNL' Writer

Lorne asking me to produce Kids in the Hall. Long story here. He didn’t tell me that HBO was going to cancel the show after the first season. I kept it alive. Honest to god. The cast and crew had no idea what I did and I didn’t either. It would not have gone to season two had I not become the me I loved. Thinking on my feet in the breakfast meeting in the HBO boardroom with Bridget Potter. The Kids have no idea. Ask John Blanchard, who was there but probably will not get what I did. I saved his job too. I f*ckin' kicked ass.

Thanks Joe, for the work you did on the best sketch comedy show of all time.

Yankee Go home

The picture at the beginning of this is one of my favorite KITH images. :)

Unlucky Man

Someone else has posted a Top Ten Funniest Kids in the Hall Sketches. The interesting thing about this is generally when someone posts the TOP 10 KITH I never agree, which is fantastic. I have quite a few kith lovin' friends and we never agree 100% on different sketches. There's truly something out there for everyone. Well everyone with a sense of humor.
And so one of their top ten, that I don't like:

Sarcasm

Part of this sketch use to be my voice mail message. :)

Detective Peter Prince

This has all the marks of a reoccurring character set up... wonder if it just didn't go over that well or if the guys just shot Scott down.

Compensation

Man... watch Bruce just plow into that guy trying to get out of the way at the beginning of the sketch. And why does Scott always play 'idiot boy'?

Thursday, December 8, 2011

Stinky Pink

Ya know... Kevin didn't play a kid enough. I love it when he does!
"There's so much evil in the world."

Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Fag

You've got to hand it to Scott. He knows how to use comedy for good.

Friday, December 2, 2011

Needed Elsewhere

Ha, Mark. Also the Scott character is frighteningly similar to a professor I had in college.

And on a completely different note: Love & Miss you George.

Tour DVD commentary

Dave explaines what this is at the beginning of the clip. Not the usual Interview Sunday, but I haven't seen anything new...

Thursday, November 24, 2011

Answering Machine

Another sketch from the "Perfect Couple."
Last year I posted the 'crazy uncle' sketch for Thanksgiving, because it's pretty true to my family. This year, something more in the spirit of the Thanksgiving day awkwardness. :) Hopefully your day will be filled with good food and company, but if not... at least you're not these people.

And ya gotta love Dave's voice at the end.

"The answering machine, the most important creative outlet of the 90s."

I'm Gonna Say Something

"I fell down while making some toast."

Another one of those - "everyone's been there" sketches.

Chicken Lady Date

Ah, why not. Some more Chicken Lady.

Love watching this sketch on the live tour DVD... Dave sliding across the stage & Mark on the commentary, "I'm there in the make up and wig and he gets the big laugh for sliding across a table."

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Chicken Lady at the Mall

I always wonder what parents let their kids be in Kids in the Hall... let alone this sketch. And Scott... the lesbian grandma.

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Man of Destiny

Part of the Kids in the Hall tour of Toronto I'm putting together would be visiting the train station here.
And hey, it's always fun to watch Dave Foley climb a guy like a spider monkey.

Interview: Kevin McDonald

A freakin' great, (and promising) interview with Kevin a few days ago.

Says Bruce is sending around the 'who wants to tour' email and that Dave is his number one. No surprise there. :)

Saturday, November 12, 2011

Island Boys

Kevin's slacker characters amuse me. He says the stuff he does with Mark is always a bit odd. He's not wrong.

Thursday, November 10, 2011

Folk Music

I've been listening to AC/DC all day... which has inspired this clip. :)

Tuesday, November 8, 2011

Pyromaniac

This is easily, Mark's best girl. Ah, Monique. If McCartney had seen this sketch the song would be Monique, not Michelle.

Sunday, November 6, 2011

For interview Sunday, a written interview with Scott Thompson about a few things, but some REALLY interesting insight into being a gay male in comedy.
I was telling someone the other day that Dave Foley was a comedy hero of mine, and he truly is, but really each of this kids are in their own way. And Scott isn't a comedy hero for being gay, he's a comedy hero for being vocal. It never matters what subject he's on, he doesn't let the audience hide. When I saw him & Kevin in Nashville, his segments of the show were filled with uncomfortable moments, but they were hilarious. And once you stopped squirming around and realized it's a ride, enjoy it, it was a great night of comedy. He had to fight for it, but that's why he's a hero. He never though, 'they're not coming along with me, I'll try something else' he just said screw it, and kept going. He didn't compromise his voice for our comfort. It's his show, come along or get left behind.

And another thing... at the end of the article Scott says gay men don't come out to his shows. When we were in Nashville there were three guys who were the best kind of flamers, and as they were leaving they kept telling us, 'It's an amazing show. He's hilarious. You're gonna love it!' It go me pumped to see what he'd do. I think if he could get their butts in the seats they'd realize he's on their side and amazing. :)

Thanks Scott!

The Affair

In the commentary for this sketch the guys are all laughing about how Bruce makes out with a woman again and how often that happened. If you think about it, yeah... it was a frequent occurrence. :)

Kevin's Sketch

Thought about posting this for Halloween yesterday. Looks like they just grabbed random costumes from the discount bin after the Holiday. Really like this one...

Monday, October 31, 2011

The Pit Of Ultimate Darkness!

Happy Halloween!

Today something truly dark and terrible! Simon & Hecubus!!!

And then this episode of NewsRadio, because come on... Dave's never looked better.

Interview: Scott Thompson and Kevin McDonald

Not sure if you saw this from a few days ago. There may be some more that have come in over the weekend.
Kevin McDonald, Scott Thompson & Dave Foley in Chicago

Wish I could have been there!

And an audio interview for the Sunday Interview piece.

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

In Search Of Pot

Pretty sure Mark had a hand in this one. Not one of my favorites.  But it introduces Jocelyn... so there's something.

Sunday, October 16, 2011

Interview: Lemon

Not exactly an interview... more of a blog. But it involves Scott Thompson. Maybe an interview about Lemons? I dunno... here it is.

Friday, October 14, 2011

No Chocolate Diet

It's interesting to me how someone I find so attractive can make himself look so unattractive. Well done Dave. :)

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Bank People

There are some work days that drag by. It seems nothing gets done, because there is nothing to do.

This is not one of those days. It's been non-stop all day. But on my 'smoke break' let me throw another odd Bruce moment out there.

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Monday, October 10, 2011

Gorilla

I had looked to post this sketch a few weeks back but it wasn't online. Really enjoy this one.

Saturday, October 8, 2011

Einstein

Everyone's been posting that 'think differently' ad after Steve Jobs died, which makes me think of this.

Friday, October 7, 2011

These Are The Daves I Know

Wrapping up the 10. A musical number. Because they weren't frequent, but they are a different dynamic to the group.

Thursday, October 6, 2011

It's a Fact: Queen Doesn't Know Her ABCs

Because of the nature of sketch comedy it helps to have smaller sketches that tie the episode together. The Kids had a few of these shorter pieces like 30 Helens Agree, the cops, the hookers, 30 Second Stories and the It's A Fact Girl.

This is the Fact Girl at her best, with the added benefit of Scott Thompson's queen of England. Fantastic. Another for the intro 10.

Wednesday, October 5, 2011

Cyril St. John

In the 10. A good example of an extended, filmed sketch. Much less surreal than Sausages, and one of my favorites.

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

Sausages

Another in the top 10. A LONG, stylized, film. Dave particularly hated this one. But it's a standard and one of those, 'once seen it can never been unseen' sketches.

Monday, October 3, 2011

Chicken Lady Visits Her Old House

So in the last blog I said there were others that should be posted in the intro to KITH, but those were the top five. So if there were a top ten... this would be included.

Sunday, October 2, 2011

Daddy Drank

So skipping the Sunday Interview to finish the intro 5.

There should be a Head Crusher sketch. There should be a Chicken Lady sketch. There should be something completely silly, like the Nutty Bunnies. A surreal piece like Sausages. A musical number. 30 Helens. Or an extended filmed sequence. But to wrap up MY 5 sketches that explain the Kids in the Hall, I'm posting Daddy Drank.
The Kids were many things, but one unifying factor: their dads. From what they've said, to different degrees they've each had issues with their fathers.

In this sketch, Kevin wrote things his dad would actually say to him, and Dave performed them as HIS dad. So showing two of the paternal personalities that made these magnificent comedians who they are, Daddy Drank.

Saturday, October 1, 2011

Comfortable

Another of the Kids introduction in 5 sketches.

They did this sketch out on tour. Kevin & Scott would go on forever.
Why is it in the intro 5? It's perverse. Sexual. Has a homoerotic/gay theme, which so many pieces did. And it goes unexpected places. Sounds like a KITH sketch to me.

Friday, September 30, 2011

Brian's Bombshell

This is one of my favorites. Another of the 5 that truly show the Kids.
It's nearly a monologue. And in truth, no one does a monologue better than Mr. Scott Thompson. Not to say I don't love the other guys, but Scott has a special sparkle on his own. He knows he has the undivided attention of the audience and he uses it.

I know this was recently posted, but I can't leave it out. It's from the pilot, like Reg and it's a piece they did on stage frequently. Another thing Brian's Bombshell and Reg have in common, they both fell flat in bigger venues they performed at. Brian's Bombshell was performed in NYC at the height of the AIDS epidemic, and the boys had included a character called, The AIDS fairy, played by Kevin. It didn't go well.

Thursday, September 29, 2011

Reg

When I got to thinking about the 5 clips to show The Kids In The Hall to someone this came up as well. The Kids themselves say this is one that represents them well, and I have to agree.

It starts off in one direction and does a swift change, which goes in a much darker, and beautifully morbid direction. It's easy to lose the shock of the piece now because every show does this. We're now waiting for the 'catch' in a sketch, and yes, many groups did it before The Kids, but I don't think there's a group out there who took it to such dark extremes like the Kids did. And that's why I love them.
To Reg!

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Womyn

If I had just 5 sketches to bring across who the Kids in the Hall were, this would be one of them.

Poreef

Gotta love the face Bruce makes when he holds up the tiny cow.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Jazz Hater

I use to like jazz. When I was in high school I really enjoyed improve jazz, for hours. Now, it's strictly big band, and Kind of Blue. Apart from that, I'm done. Wonder where that love went. Maybe the way of Bruce.

Monday, September 19, 2011

Nobody Home

According to @ScottThompson_, Scott & Kevin were booed off stage? And had a shoe thrown at them... having seen the show I can't really figure out what they could have done.

And now for something completely different.

Can't get this one to embed, so click the link to see the Head Crusher & his girlfriend.
Clip of the day.

Manny Coon

Today one of my best friends, Joe left for UCLA. When I first had Joe watch KITH, this was the first, and possibly only sketch he really enjoyed. Seems about right.

Monday, September 12, 2011

All's Fair in Love

A good one to go to when you're trying to show people just how attractive Dave Foley can be as a woman. This or any one where he's a blonde.

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

The Real Buddy Holly

If I'd known today was Buddy Holly's 75th birthday I would have saved that clip for today. I'm a HUGE Buddy Holly fan, but know more about the music than the man.

But I'm going to post it again. Why not. And we'll throw in some extra stuff. :)

Big Gut Guys

Aaaaand I hate this sketch. But it shows the set. Well, I don't hate it, but it really grosses me out.

Friday, September 2, 2011

Fight Picker

I love how you can see what new sets the guys got each season by what the use. Like the court room, or this bar.

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

Idiot Boy

I know this sketch isn't PC, but I love it. Come to think of it, if I only posted PC KITH clips this would be a very short blog.

Monday, August 29, 2011

The Real Buddy Holly

Well, back from the show with Scott & Kevin, and it was fantastic! Both of the guys were hillarious and I'd recomend it to anyone who can catch the show before it's all over!!!

And now, my point of pride: Love these guys.

Comfortable High

When this post is published I'll be on my way to Nashville to see Scott & Kevin do standup. I can easily see Scott doing standup because of Buddy Cole etc, but it's a bit harder for me to picture what Kevin will be like. Very excited to see them.*seal clap*

And here's the follow up sketch to Comfortable.

Friday, August 26, 2011

Comfortable

Getting VERY excited about tomorrow's trip to Nashville to see Scott Thompson & Kevin McDonald.

During the 2008 tour I asked Scott on a online Q&A who he hadn't kissed and he said Kevin. So when I saw him in Nashville all those years ago I brought up this sketch, which is one of my favorites and got a big response of, "THAT'S RIGHT!!! I did kiss him!" But in truth I think Scott kisses Kevin more than anyone else. Oh Scott.

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Buddy Cole: Jail

Getting excited about seeing Scott in two days with Kevin!
It's been too long.

There are some great comments on this YouTube video. So if you have the time, check them out. A lot of them are just quotes from the sketch, but that's what makes them great. :)

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

I Speak No English

Had a conversation with someone today that started with, "Do you speak Russian?" and then things went downhill from there. Reminded me a bit of this sketch.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

The Pear Dream

The OKGo video reminds me of Kids In The Hall's Pear Dream at the end. See for yourself.

Interview: Dave

An older video/interview of Dave, talking about writing. Wonder if he's done that movie...

Saturday, August 20, 2011

Anal Probing Aliens

It's been one of those days... and so this one goes out to Jennifer, who quotes this sketch frequently. Enjoy, you twisted ass freaks.

PS Dave wrote this sketch about how he didn't like writing sketches anymore. This slides nicely into the interview about writing with Dave tomorrow. :)

Also this time next week... I'LL BE IN NASHVILLE WAITING TO SEE KEVIN & SCOTT!!!

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Armada: Late to Practice

So I've been sick the past few days, and not paying attention to KITH CLIPS. So yeah, backdating the posts so there won't be a gap.

Monday, August 15, 2011

Whores: Sock Puppet

Have really been looking forward to the Muppets: The Green Album and just listened to all of it on NPR. Thus the inspiration for the clip of the day.

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Interview: Full Cast

Nice interview with Scott here about the tour he's started with Kevin.

On the last tour the guys had a DVD interview for sale that I picked up, and this is a clip from it. But you gotta love Dave Foley for going there. He's so beautifully dark.

Saturday, August 13, 2011

Plungers

Bobby's dad. One of my least favorite KITH characters. But I also don't like Bobby. So... ya know.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Clown

Just posted on a friend of mine's facebook to scare the crap outta him...

Inspired this sketch.

35 Degrees In Tampa

One of my houst guests, (starting tomorrow) said, "It's hot in LA." It's hotter here! It's a wet hot. Really uncomfortable. But hey, it's 35 Degrees in Tampa.

Sizzler and Sizzler

So, missed the Thursday post. So I'm backdating this from Friday...
Sold out show at the venue I work for last night with more people than seats and ticket giveaways out of nowhere. Got a bit crazy here, and so... a forgotten post. But amending that now, with a tiny concert of only one song. :)

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Party Guests

Quick one today as I'm out the door... I know Kevin really likes this one.

Tuesday, August 2, 2011

Can't Kill Rock

Tonight I see Brian Wilson in concert. I hope it's not a "very sad thing." Couldn't put any other sketch today. Just wouldn't be right.

Monday, August 1, 2011

Extreme Roommate

Pretty sure this is my favorite KITH duo. Raj and Christine. In a week my one room apartment will be shared by two other people for seven days. I'm watching this to think of the worse and prepare. :)

Saturday, July 30, 2011

Check-Up

Got my tickets to see these guys in Nashville the other day. Love the sketches they do together.

Friday, July 29, 2011

Backstage Broadway Broads

Theater people. I'm not saying they're all the same but sometimes stereotypes exist for a reason.

Thursday, July 28, 2011

School Room

The BANG when Kevin's head falls is so loud! But at least it's not hollow.

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Wrong Number

Got an iPhone that I'm over the moon about so with phone on the brain I post this...
Always a little weirded out by random girls on the show when there were other cast members around. I know they had changes during the other sketches etc. but it still always seems a bit odd.

Monday, July 25, 2011

Salty Ham

Looked up, "Kids in the Hall, tired" on youtube and this was the first clip to pop up. Must admit it really fits the mood today. I'm tired, aggravated, stressed and ready to clock out and go home. *sigh* On a brighter note, this is my best friend's favorite sketch.

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Interview: Scott Thompson

Comic Con is happening, so here's a past interview with Scott from Comic Con.

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Francesca Fiore - Perfume Commecial

I've got the red fingernails going today. Made me think of Francesca. No red nails in this clip, but she's got the red lips and a side note-Scott kept that little egg thing.

No Bruno Punch Jones... but there is a swastika, so that's... something.

I've been in a hospital in wee hours of the morning and then another one around 8am this morning. Sitting in one of the waiting rooms everyone was talking up a storm and I thought of this sketch.

Monday, July 18, 2011

Puppy Won't Do Tricks

Someone brought a dog into the office today. It doesn't do tricks just whines a lot.

Sunday, July 17, 2011

Interview: Kevin McDonald

A QTV interview with Kevin from a few months back. Kevin has a new tv show online. Haven't seen it yet but think I'll check it out Monday.

And a mention of Dave Foley in this interview with the handsome, Colin Ferguson.

Saturday, July 16, 2011

Long Story - Celebration

Sometimes I feel like my memory is about this long... no joke. And then Scott's waiter celebration.

Friday, July 15, 2011

Who's The Cutest Guy On Death Row

I know Scott isn't technically in the sketch, but he's in the picture... so I'm going to count this as a group effort.

Thursday, July 14, 2011

Emergency Room Practical Joker

Going to see Harry Potter at midnight tonight and while looking up KITH & Potter I found this. Not excellent but there are some cute moments.

Another of the Blood Love sketches for Dave.

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Mr. Heavyfoot Kicks A Ball

Watching the FIFA Womens World Cup semi-final with USA v. France.

Well more listening to it but anyway, seemed appropriate to post this.

Work Pig

Just got a call from my second job to come in at 7:30am this Thursday before going to work at my first job. My life... work pig.

Monday, July 11, 2011

Steel Toed Boots

I first became a KITH fan in High School and there are a few sketches I remember being fascinated with at that time. This was one of them. Something about Dave's hair and how horrible the whole premise was.

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Interview: Dave Foley

Another Interview Sunday!
This came out during their 2008 tour. Fun interview.

Saturday, July 9, 2011

Art Class

Still one of my FAVORITE KITH lines, "Naked, fat, black, crippled, dykes are hard to find!" Honestly. I crack up every time.

Friday, July 8, 2011

Fat Hitchhiker

Thursday nights I go out with friends from work and I work at a plus size clothing store in the evenings, so everyone there is chubby/fat. But because we get to eat we're happy. :)

Anyway, made some comment about how we're all find being called fat last night and it reminded me of this.

Thursday, July 7, 2011

Wednesday, July 6, 2011

Body Conscious

Think this is only part one of the two part sketch, so I'll have to link the second part tomorrow.

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

Pit of Ultimate Darkness on a Date

A video of Dave in his underpants. It's pretty amazing.

But it seems Dave have never been afraid of showing his... bits. Ah Hecubus.

Monday, July 4, 2011

Sick of the Swiss

It's the 4th of July, Independence Day!
I must admit that I love this holiday. Fireworks, 1812 Overture, Fireworks. Good times.

For the past few US holidays I've posted sketches that mention America, or make fun of America, which is pretty easy to do. So this time I'm going to post the video, Sick of the Swiss, cause what's more American than hating another country. I kid, I kid... kinda.

"It's time, it's time, it's time to hate the Swiss."

Sunday, July 3, 2011

Interview: Bruce McCculloch

The ususal Sunday interview. This week with Bruce McCulloch on the red carpet talking about "shit mix".

Saturday, July 2, 2011

French Fur Trappers

When trying to describe the style of the Kids in the Hall, this is a good example. It's odd. A twist on a familiar subject. Includes mocking of business men... yeah, a good sketch.

Friday, July 1, 2011

Francesca Fiore: Divorce Court

This clip includes my two favorite KITH characters of all time, Bruno Punch Jones & Mr. Tisane. It also says that "Canada has the best health care system in the world." Something I'm very envious of at this moment.

So in honor of Canada Day, a clip that says the best of Canada, and the best of KITH.

Thursday, June 30, 2011

Cyril St. John

I ADORE this sketch. The writing. The cinematography. It's so well done. Continuing with the B&W theme, though some of this is done in color. Seriously though, an amazing sketch.

Side note: When Dave is hung upside down on the stage he is holding on with his feet because the harness had come undone.

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Lady Is A Tramp

Another great B&W sketch, Lady is a Tramp. If you've never seen it, this goes though the show, but this is the full story in one clip.
 "Freak."

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Writer's Struggle

Really like the look of this piece. Wish they had done more of this... I always love their B&W sketches. Scott looks great here.

Folk Music

Have been listening to the band Lawrence Arabia a lot today. If you haven't heard of them, check them out. Great lyrics, well written music and a lighthearted attitude.

Seriously, it's good stuff. :)

And on a similar note- Folk Music.

Lick The Town Clean

The 200th post, but not the 200th day...

A friend of mine was talking about how she loved this sketch, even though she doesn't know much about The Kids In The Hall, so thought I would post it.

Gotta say, I love the woman that licks the air...

New York Road Trip - Deer Or Bear?

A deer broke though a window and caused some issues in a church over the weekend...

Good thing it wasn't a bear.

Saturday, June 18, 2011

Drag Queen Revolt

Part of my job as an event coordinator at a venue is working with drag queens and I've always had an easy time of it with them. No revolts here. Girl in the sketch is fierce!

Friday, June 17, 2011

Gavin: Painting A Chair

The first Gavin sketch, and easily my favorite. Really like Mark's reactions in this one and it seems so real.

Thursday, June 16, 2011

Syntax

I had forgotten about this one... If I ever date a shorter guy, I'm going to make us go as Francesca & Bruno for Halloween. Dave never looks better than when he's Bruno. *sigh*

Pet Businessman

Another great part for Kevin. Kevin's voice is unique and hilarious on it's own, but it's nice to focus on his physical mannerisms that are so funny as well. The other guys say that Kevin is the funniest because he's just naturally funny. So in this sketch he doesn't say much but he cracks me up.

Bloopers and Rape Kevin

Something fun- The Season One wrap party/bloopers tape was posted on the KITH Facebook group today. Very amusing. Love seeing the transition from the stage to the show.

And continuing with the Kevin McDonald week: Rape Kevin.
This sketch opened the tour. It would end with the guys running after Kevin onto the stage. Kevin would have an apple in his mouth and half of his clothes torn off. Good times...

Try It Now

Yesterday was Mr. Scott Thompson's birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT! But it's Kevin week... so a sketch with just Scott and Kevin.

Kevin McDonald Interview

Continuing with the Kevin McDonald week... (that started on Thursday).

And he talks about how Jeff Ross (the current & awesome producer of Conan O'Brien) was the producer for the first three seasons of Kids In The Hall.
I also love that when Kevin tells the story of how they all met he says it really fast.

The Beard

Another Kevin sketch. Cause he's worth a full weekend. :) Maybe I should make it Kevin week... even if it started on Thursday. That's the sort of week that should be named after Kevin, a week that starts on Thursday.

The King of Empty Promises: Prison

Kevin delives his lines as this character like Paul Bellini but it is stuff that he would do. Forget to bring things back etc. But I love the dynamic of this sketch because Kevin is the dominant character for once.

Ballet Dancer

Great article from NPR about the Kids in the Hall today.

This little blurb made me smile.

As the extras reveal, Kids was a true democracy, albeit a contentious and messy one. All the members wrote material – for themselves and each other – and each filled a critical role in the Kids' comedic attack pattern: David Foley was the comedy scholar. Bruce McCullough, the nervy iconoclast. Mark McKinney, the character specialist. Scott Thompson, the theatrical wit.
It's the goofy Kevin McDonald, though, who comes across as the glue that held the company together. A naturally gifted clown, McDonald consistently elevated the others' material with his collaborative spirit and ace improv skills.

So a clip that features some of the natural genus of Kevin McDonald.

My Trip to the Farm

Running to a meeting now. Doubt there will be any mental 'trips to the farm' though...

Side note: I'm also going to this farm while in Toronto. :)

The Terrier Song

One of the stops on the KITH tour I'm planning is the cemetery... guess I'll need to look for the BAKER headstone. This is so freakin' weird.

Bleeding Ear

Have had a pounding headache for most of the day. Pretty sure it's on it's way out but for a minute there I was expecting blood to shoot out of my ear.

Another of Dave's blood sketches.

ABC News interviews Dave Foley

Poor Dave got up early to do this. And you can tell. :)

Still, I enjoy the interview. And it seems Dave and I have Comfortable in common.

Can't find an embed code for the video... so here's a link.

Mass Murderer

Another, 'as least I don't have that job' post. Granted there are days where I feel like killing everyone, but the cleanup aspect seems to be more work than it's worth. :)

Each Day We Work

I leave Job 1 to go to Job 2 this weekend. Then I'll spend most of Saturday at Job 2 and have a manditory meeting at Job 2 Sunday. I know it's great to have two jobs in a time where some people can't find one, but yeesh.

So that's on the brain. Which leads to this clip, cause hey, at least I'm not doing that job!

Nervous Break(fast) Down

I've been talking to a friend at work about KITH recently. She's a big fan. Any time I ask her about sketches she likes, this is the first one she says.

Milk in a bag... genius.

Something trending on YouTube at the moment.

Example of a bad dad? Nah... but here's one.

What is the Fat Man Doing Across the Road?

I'm always amused at how many Kids in the Hall sketches have found their way on to YouTube. When I first started this blog 3 years ago I was really worried I wasn't going to have enough for a full year. Stopped doing it before that time came along, but now it seems most of their catologe is online!

Including this oddity.

Canada Abandons Monarchy

More and more Due South... at one point in the episode I was watching this morning they brought up the queen. So here, in all her glory, is the queen. :)

JudeCast Interview

Kevin's interaction with these women cracks me up! The whole interview is kinda messed up, well... really messed up, but truly amusing.

Exhibition Shirling

Getting ready for a great rugby game between Munster & Leinster, two of my favorite teams. Some say that rugby is a dangerous sport, and it can be, but it's not as bad a Shirling. :)

Not Working Out

Made a major error at work today... could today be the day?  The Chris Bellamy day?

Tape! Sticky on one side, not on the other.

Don't know if you've ever noticed but later in that season, or another Tarzan fires Bellamy. Poor guy.

Bruce's Advice

Can't seem to stop listening to The Sex Pistols today... Have been going though a Due South phase, which has turned into a desire to watch Hard Core Logo again and that has made it a punk rock morning.

Hard Core Logo stars Callum Keith Reenie, one of my favorite actors and a good friend of Bruce McCulloch. So a sketch where Bruce talks about CKR. See it all goes around.

The Pear Dream

Scott has done another fruit blog. :)

And yeah, it's been done here before, but I can't follow up a fruit blog post with anything but the Pear Dream!

The Bill

I now work in a restaurant. A great place that I really enjoy and though I'm not a server I've seen this sort of activity a few times. The worst was in September where a man complained until the server gave him a free meal and even stopped at the door to tell me off as he was leaving. He then had to wait 40 mins for a cab in the cold, which made me a bit happier. A bit like Dave?

Here's to you rude, gruff-voiced, guy.

Nothing fun or interesting to say on this one, except I think the name should be Oompah band killer...

Scott interview '11

Another interview, recently posted about Scott Thompson from this site.

Great quote: "Every generation has their Achilles heel, and this generation's Achilles heel is they're impatient, and they have too much self esteem. When I was growing up self esteem was something you accomplished in spite of your childhood, not because of it. Young kids today are told from day one that they are amazing, 'Honey you are the best! That is the best drawing of a butterfly ever!'" -Scott Thompson

Death Comes To Town Bloopers

Well... I was going to post the next episode of Death Comes To Town this Saturday, but it's not on YouTube anymore.

But the Bloopers are!
So I hope you watched the rest of the series and are now buying it... (it's truly worth it).

Indian Drum & Buddy Cole on Conan

I had a freaking MASSIVE KITH dream last night. I went to bed thinking about tickets/travel costs for Kevin & Scott's show in Chicago and thought that I really should find out if they will be touring anywhere closer to KY. From there my brain went on overdrive, fueled by a late night carrot feast and started thinking of the eventual Conan promotion...
It starts with me in the front row of Conan O'Brien's show. Kevin comes out dressed in the Dr. Seuse outfit and starts talking about symbols, then he holds up a cymbal and everyone screams. Scott slides out (also in DS costume) and starts doing the Indian Drum sketch with a tiny fake drum. I guess they switched parts. But he doesn't really know it so he's doing a 'spoken word' piece.  They get done and trip off stage because the costume feet are slippery. Conan is laughing like a mad man and I ask him if he enjoyed it. "No, I just knew it was going to be that crappy."

I tweet that it's crazy that the Kids in the Hall are on Conan the one night I get to be there.

Then I'm at that side stage door that Conan always uses and Scott is on stage with Whoppi Goldberg doing a boardroom sketch about business men. Scott stops the sketch and tells Whoppi that she's doing something wrong, in front of the audience. She gets upset, gets an attitude and stops off to sit in the front row of the audience, who is now very uncomfortable. Mark then comes out and tells her she shouldn't be disrespectful because Scott is making them dinner that night and she owes him.

While this is going on Bruce is sitting backstage in a LOW cut blue dress. I noticed that he didn't shave/wax his chest and that he should before playing a woman. He says, "It's just Conan." Mark is now in a BIG Jim Henson puppet where his head is in the body of the puppet and his arm is up controlling the mouth. Like Big Bird, BUT the puppet looks like Grover. He starts the sketch that involves a phone and I'm still backstage with Bruce, who's forgotten his first line for when he answers the phone. I feed him a line to say and he goes out on stage.

After the show we go into a little room with chair/desks like you have in school. The 'after party' is everyone sitting in these little desks and eating finger sandwiches. Dave is sitting beside me. He wasn't able to be on the show because he was doing standup somewhere that night but he's there to meet with the other guys. At one point I walked over to a woman and told her she looked as good as Dave as a woman, and assured her that that was very high praise.
Dave as a woman.
It seems that it was Dave as a woman but my dream made her a different person. Went back to Dave and told him the story and he just smiled.

Bruce and I got into a conversation about how I became a KITH fan. I told him I was pretty sure that I watched NewsRadio first and then while flipping though stations saw Dave on KITH and stopped. "Oh, so you didn't watch us first." Even in my dreams Bruce makes things awkward...

Then a teacher came into this little room and sent everyone a text, which I didn't get... she did teaching though texts and would send out the notes for the class that way. Mark & Kevin snuck in cause they were running late. ANNNNNND that was the end of the dream.

So with that... the sketch that started it all.

And for kicks & giggles... a Buddy Cole/ Scott Thompson interview from Conan O'Brien. Gotta love Coco.

Dave update

This stuff came out a few months ago, but regarding a specific part of the article: I would LOVE to see Dave Foley & Scott Thompson as a double bill on tour! Just tell me where and when!

So Scott, Dave... if you've somehow found this useless blog, I'm 100% behind this idea!

Comedian Dave Foley fears arrest, owes $500,000 in child-support

Head Crusher: Pilot

Within the past few week I started planning a trip to Toronto. I've never been on a trip with my best friend Brad and we decided it was time to change that. When I asked where he wanted to go, he said a city, so I put Toronto forward and he was game.

In truth I love Toronto. I was there about seven years ago and thought it was a great city but I don't remember too much about my trip, simply because I have a horrible memory. There are people who will put us up for the stay as well which will help trip expenses. And so the Toronto trip was born.

Then it morphed into a Kids In The Hall tour of Toronto. First I found this site with a map of Toronto based KITH moments. Now I'm going through the commentaries to find more places that would be nice to visit. For example, the beautiful park in this Head Crusher sketch.

This is the first time the Head Crusher is ever seen. A clip from their pilot and it's also the park across from the original Second City where Kevin met Dave.
When you go to Liverpool they take you to Woolton Parish Church where John & Paul met... the Second City is closed, but the park will serve as a place to mark the beginning of the Kids In The Hall...why not.

All I had was the note about it being across from the old Second City but I had no idea about the location of the park. Sent an email to Toronto 311 and got this thorough response.
Second City operated from its Toronto founding in 1974 until it moved in 1997 out of 110 Lombard Street.  This building served as the Central Fire Station of the City of Toronto from 1886 until 1969 and is known as the Old Fire Hall.  At the present time it is operated by Gilda's Club, Greater Toronto.  Gilda's Club, named after former Second City member Gilda Radner offers support to cancer patients, cancer survivors and their families.
The park which you are looking for is St. James Park, which is approximately a block from the Old Fire Hall.  It is bounded by Adelaide Street on the North, Jarvis Street on the east, King Street on the south and St. James Cathedral on the west.  The Sculpture Gardens is across King Street from St. James Park.
So I'm slowly pulling together a KITH tour. Once I get the route sussed out I'll share it. Should be fun.

Kids In The Hall Update

One of my heros, Conan O'Brien mentioned The Kids In The Hall in this interview from the 100 Most Creative People In Business 2011 list.

This is from the Same Guys New Dresses documentary about their tour in 2000. A clip of the guys going on Conan's show after Scott backed out. My favorite moment of the doc.

They got a mention from Jon Hamm here. Beautiful with good taste in comedy? Could it be?

Kevin McDonald & Scott Thompson have a show together- tickets up for Chicago already. 230 seat venue. I'll see if I can find anywhere else on the 'tour'?

And Dave's show has been picked up by CBS. "How to Be a Gentleman," has been described as a younger version of "The Odd Couple". Hope it survives the cut throat world of television now. More than that I hope Dave does some writing for the show.

Found most of this information here.

The DT's

As promised, The DT's.

An odd sketch. I love Dave Foley as a giant tea bag. I don't know who wouldn't... except maybe Dave. Then there's Mark's teeth and a Beatle reference. "Number 9. Number 9." All of that with my favorite Kevin character, Mr. Tisane. (Husband of Francesca Fiore... kinda.)

"Dunk me."

30 Helens Agree: Tattoos

Just a quick one today. Wearing my 30 Helens Agree shirt I got from the 2008 tour. So I felt this was appropriate.

I volunteer for a local radio show/webcast/tv show. Have been for 9 years now... went around last night talking about camomile tea because of Kevin's birthday and the vast amounts of said tea I was drinking. Thought about posting the Tea Factory sketch today, but I've already done that. Guess I'll do the DT's tomorrow.

Old Yeller & Horsey

It's KEVIN McDONALD'S BIRTHDAY! *CONFETTI* *STREAMERS* *FREE CAKE*

Kevin has always been my favorite Kid. His voice in Joymakers sounds JUST like a party horn, which gave me hours of amusement when I was younger. As time went on and I found out more about the individual guys in the troupe I still liked Kevin the most. His dorky charm, passive aggressive nature and ability to put himself between arguments made me love him all the more.

One of my favorite sketches he was in (no idea who wrote them) from when I was younger was the Old Yeller series. Something about the blood really cracked me up.

After this there's a sketch with a guy playing the dog but I can't find that one on YouTube.  Then there's this sketch. Isn't Dave cute...

1986 Interview

Not a sketch, but a great interview from Dave & Bruce in 1986. Think I should start doing interview Sundays?
Dave is 23 here, Bruce is 25. Dave looks 15, Bruce looks 18.

The fact they are so quiet in this interview amuses me. Especially if you've seen the stage stuff they were doing in '86. Lots of yelling...

Death Comes To Town: Episode One

Blogger's been playing up, so who knows if this will work right. Don't have the net at home currently, so I'll post a few episodes of Death Comes To Town this weekend.

It's an odd show. Doubt anyone's surprised about that, being a Kids in the Hall production and all. The DVD is on Amazon, and Canadian region dvd's are the same as US, so it will play fine in any Region 1 dvd player.

BUY HERE: Death Comes To Town on Amazon

If for no other reason, buy it for the theme song. I've searched high and low for a full version of the theme and have yet to find one, but it's amazing.

Asshole

Told a friend of mine that this is a great sketch because nearly everyone has been in this situation. That one jerk guy/girl that's a friend of your friend. You don't know why your friend hangs out with this annoying waste of space, but there they are.
I know a few of my friends feel that way about one of my other friends. :)

"Look at me. Look at me!" And the audience loves it. You can't help but cheer. Perfect casting as well, everyone wants Kevin McDonald to stick up for himself. And Mark's "that's buggin' me do you mind?" is great.

Bike Courier & Drunk Chick from Winnipeg

Slings & Arrows is a show written by Mark McKinney, Susan Coyne, & Bob Martin and stars Don McKellar as Darren Nichols. Don plays the Bike Courier in this sketch. He's a fantastic Canadian actor, who plays one of my favorite characters in S&A. If you're not familiar with the show, go find it. Online, video store, anywhere! It's fantastic. I actually bought it before I saw it, and then ran out to get the next two seasons the moment I could. It helps if you're familiar with Shakespeare's works, but you don't have to be. I also have a theatre background (production, not performance) so I really relate to the Maria character played by Catherine Fitch the sweet drunk girl from Winnipeg. :)

It's an excellent show, HIGHLY suggested.

The final sketch in this series stars Andrew Miller (who I know by being a David Hewlett fan) from Cube.
But I don't see it online right now... I'll message the person who uploaded these clips and see if they have it.

Skora, the Gentle Shark

I've never been a reality TV fan, but I do love The Deadliest Catch. Last night, a friend and I drove to Cincinnati to see The Captains Tour: Sig Hansen & The Hillstrand Brothers. It's just an evening of them talking and answering questions. It was great fun we were able to meet the guys by the bus after the show. Today I'm wearing the tee shirt I got there, which has a huge anchor on it, and I'm feeling rather nautical.

So that has inspired today's clip. I can honestly say, this is not one of my favorites, but the makeup looks great!

Gavin and Mom

Well Mother's Day was here on the 7th. Found out last night from the Mexican guy at the Rincon restaurant that Mother's Day in Mexico is on the 10th of May. So I'm hitting right in the middle of the two with this Gavin sketch. Gavin & His Mom. Must remember to look up the correct name of the sketch when I get home.

Answer the Phone

My current job is Event Coordinator at a local venue/restaurant. Which has a lot of fun sides. I book bands I like, talk to new & interesting people, it's good.

Then, every-so-often it's a day like today. The phone hasn't stopped ringing from moment one. Lots of silly questions, weird reservations... it's been annoying.

And so, this clip, which also annoys me. I hate the sound of a ringing phone. Don't know of any who do like it... but yeah, it drives me crazy.
But there's Bellini, so that helps.

Dave on Keith Olbermann

This happened some time ago, but I didn't post it. Just catching up.

Brian's Bombshell

My computer has been broken for a week or so now, which means no internet when I get home. That also means no tv, because all of my tv viewing comes from online sites. So at some point this week I put my Kids in the Hall DVDs in and went to town. I've been watching all the commentaries, clips from the Rivoli, tour DVDs and the regular seasons.

So the obsession is back. It's hard to believe the tour was three years ago already.

To get back in the swing of things, the sketch that is becoming my overall favorite. There have always been a few sketches that are at the top. Joymakers, Comfortable and the one with Tony on the subway. But the writing in this one is just amazing. The long speech about clutching coupons for soap and crackers and hacking up blood. It's fantastic!
